/signed - I agree with Evilsod. Either keep it so that PvE elite armors stay as PvE armors, or let all those drops from the HA chests drop in PvE. That includes the Stygian axes, Runic Blades, etc etc.

Additional 1.5k (or is it 1k now?) armor is fine for a pvp reward, as well as most weapon skins. 15k armor and Obsidian specifically should NEVER be allowed for use on a pvp'er.
So basically the easiest way to get PvE obsidian armour is by farming your ass off and then farm even more. farming UW is easy, anyone can do it by coming onto this forum and getting a solo build. It's easy, but it takes a long long time.

The easiest way to get PvP obsidian is getting into a decent guild that runs fotm gimmicks, doing well in the ATs. In effect it is farming but in PvP rather than in PvE. This is easy (compared with getting into a top guild that doesnt run gimmicks), but takes a long long time.

------- So what exactly is the difference? The only difference is in one you farm monsters and the other you farm other players. Both are easy and both take a hell of a long time.

It is as hard to obtain obsidian in PvP than it is in PvE. Its pretty easy to argue its even harder as anyone can solo UW 10 times a day, whereas only a few can get into a guild good enough to do well in ATs, even with a gimmick.

If you think farming ectos is hard then you are kidding yourself, there are builds, guides and even videos to show anyone who plays the game how to do it. I myself learned in about 3 practice runs by posts on this site. It just takes time to get all the ectos you need then all the excess to sell for the 75k + obsidian shards. If you think getting into a guild good enough to enter an AT a day and do well in every one of them, gimmick or not, is as easy as farming UW, then you are kidding yourself.

Playing 1v1 ATs for reward points is more comparable with farming UW, but even that requires playing at certain times and having some skill to be able to beat other human opponents rather than AI which is the same every time you farm. Now assuming the average person with a life wont be able to take part in more than 1 AT per day, that's 200 days of coming in the top 25% of every AT played to buy the obsidian as a previous poster showed.

Conclusion - Gaining obsidian through PvP is far more difficult then through PvE. The time it takes is another matter as it depends on how often you farm / how often you take part in ATs.

Agree completely with you there.

On another note, to the OP complaining how you can't get rank emotes in PvE, that has no relevance to the subject here; we're talking about items, not titles. That would be like a PvPer complaining that he can't get his Canthan Grandmaster Cartographer in PvP... And last I checked, you can get your Crystallines in UW, FoW, and SF as well as HoH, whereas the first 3 named are PvE only.

It takes a very long time to get even longer than in pve.
It's a reward for hard work and time spent.

Items or Titles, both are still game content relevant to the gametype at hand.

Each gametype has content that is available in it and not in the other.

This is supposed to encourage players to play pvp and pve, to get the most out of the game.

You can only acquire purples from those three places, you'll never have the perfect desired stats from those places only from the halls chest.

It would be nice if Runic Blades etc.. could be found elsewhere but I'm not up in arms about another skin that I wish was more accessible to me. A PvP only player having the same armour as me doesn't affect my gameplay one bit, and from the sound of things it takes just as much effort (I'll actually say a lot more) to acquire these elite armours in PvP.

Nobody ever said that "pve armors" existed. Last time I checked lower end
"pve armors" are the defaults for pvp characters. If you want a runic blade or stygian axe try beating Mallyx and see what he drops.

AND FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE SAYING MINI GHOSTLY SHOULD DROP IN PVE?!!? WTF?!?! THEY WOULD BE WORTH ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THEN DESTORYING THE ECONOMY AND ALL YOU SCRUBS WOULD RUN AROUND HA THINKING YOU WERE SO 1337 FOR A WEEK UNTIL THEY NERFED THE INEVITABLE FARM TO GET THEM!!!

Let's go through the calculations, shall we?

Assume you can get 30 reward points in a single AT (which is reasonable for someone with average skill, I'd say). Now let's also assume that you compete in one AT a day (an overestimate, judging by timing strains). This means you will get 30 points a day. You need 2,000 to get Obsidian armor, 1,000 to gain access to it and 1,000 to complete the set. 2,000 / 30 = 66.666... That's over two months to complete the set, whereas in PvE it takes what? A month of farming and buying things? Even less for 15k armor, which costs 1,250 points to complete from scratch.

Also, here's one question. PvP characters can ONLY go into PvP areas. So what's the problem? If you see someone with Obsidian armor in a PvE area, it retains its status since they cannot have gotten it through PvP. How many of you PvE'rs actually look at PvP areas that permit you to get these items? The only two ways right now are GvG and HB. Obviously you don't care for GvG, since you PvE. As for HB, how many people do you think will actually be able to get this armor? Casual HB'ers won't have a shot at it, for sure. Only hardcore HB'ers and GvG'ers will be able to get armor like this, which is an extremely small subset of the already-low 10% (ballpark) group of players who are PvP'ers.

Just think about it logically. This armor will be unavailable to most PvP'ers anyway, and it won't bother you in PvE sicne PvP characters can't go there. So what's the problem?

(Oh, and as a side note, I don't really care if PvE gets emotes. More power to them, it doesn't affect me as a PvP'er at all...)

How does it affect a pve-er that pvpers can now get the armour through pvp? The pvp way to get the title needs more time and effort to get than the pve way. About Halls drops becoming availible to pve'ers, the difference between the two is that anywhere in pve can be farmed, and this can't be done with Halls.

why?

Because the reward points are by no means cheap.

In my opinion, even pvp players deserve to have their own elite armor. It is way for them to enjoy all the time and effort they put into getting it.

As other people have said, these armors in PvP are NOT cheap. they take just as much time if not more than than PvE.
